Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) pummeled Luzon on Sunday (Sept. 25), where a little over 600,000 people, based on estimates made by a United Nations (UN) agency), live below the poverty line.
Hours after Karding morphed into a super typhoon, it made landfall in Burdeos, Quezon province at 5:30 PM. Around 9 PM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Karding weakened into a typhoon as it made its second landfall in the vicinity of Dingalan, Aurora.
MIAA: No damage reported at Naia after typhoon Karding onslaught

There was no damage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) after Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) barreled through the country, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reported Monday.

Power outages hit parts of Nueva Ecija due to Karding

Several parts of Nueva Ecija province suffered from power interruptions after heavy rains and strong winds toppled power lines during the onslaught of Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru).
In an advisory on Monday, Sept. 26, the Cabanatuan Electric Corporation (Celcor), which distributes electricity to this city, said an initial assessment showed that the typhoon damaged several power lines, poles, and other related structures.

35 families evacuated in Zambales town due to Karding

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — At least 35 families, or 144 individuals, from several low-lying villages in Masinloc town were evacuated due to floods caused by Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru), local authorities said Monday, Sept. 26.
Masinloc Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said at least 19 (75 individuals) displaced residents were from Barangay Inhobol, while a family (five individuals) was from Barangay South Poblacion.

Typhoon Karding makes another landfall in Aurora

Typhoon Karding made another landfall, this time in Aurora, on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Karding is now in the vicinity of Nueva Ecija. It has maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 290 kilometers per hour.

The number of stranded passengers in Bicol ports rose to 2,049 on Sunday night, Sept. 25, due to Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru), according to Gremil Alexis Naz, spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol.

The provincial government of Nueva Ecija has suspended classes on Monday, Sept. 26 in all levels in public and private schools, in anticipation of the effects of Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru).
Governor Aurelio Umali, in an advisory issued Sunday, Sept. 25, declared the suspension of classes, as well as the suspension of work in all government offices, except for those involved in relief and rescue operations.

Super typhoon Karding intensifies; Signal No. 5 in parts of Quezon, Signal No. 3 in NCR

Super typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) intensified further before noon Sunday and prompted state meteorologists to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 over parts of Quezon province.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) TCWS No.5 over Polillo Island and the extreme northern portion of Quezon (the northern and central portions of General Nakar, and the northeastern portion of Infanta).

Bicol region on red alert as Super typhoon Karding looms

Local officials placed the entire Bicol region on red alert status since Saturday as Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) triggered rainfall in many parts of Luzon.
Claudio Yucot, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – Bicol chief, said the Emergency Operation Centers were activated to ensure that appropriate response measures are undertaken.

Philippines evacuates coasts, cancels sea trips as Super Typhoon Karding nears

Philippine authorities started evacuating people from coastal areas on Sunday and hundreds were unable to travel by sea as the main island Luzon, including Manila, braces for a category 3 typhoon that continues to strengthen, officials said.
Typhoon Noru (local name: Karding) became a super typhoon “after a period of explosive intensification”, with sustained winds increasing to 185 km (115 miles) per hour from 120 kph on Saturday evening, the disaster agency said in an advisory.
Super typhoon disrupts sea travel, over 1,200 stranded in ports — Coast Guard

More than 1,200 passengers and crew members are stranded in different ports in the country as Super Typhoon Karding roars closer to land, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Sunday.
The PCG reported that 677 passengers and cargo workers were stranded in 16 ports — including Batangas Port — in Southern Tagalog, while the 535 were also stranded in Virac Port in Catanduanes.

Quezon braces for Super Typhoon Karding

Quezon province’s provincial disaster management operation center was placed on red alert status by Governor Angelina Tan as of Saturday as Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) roars closer to land.
Tan also ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and their local counterparts to heighten the monitoring of their respective areas of responsibility and immediately provide situational reports.

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) has intensified while moving closer to the country’s landmass Sunday morning, prompting the state weather bureau to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 over 6 areas in Luzon.
In its early morning typhoon update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical services Administration (Pagasa) reported that “Karding”, as of 5:00 a.m. was tracked some 285 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph.

MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Karding (international name: Noru) intensified into a typhoon on Saturday night, prompting the state weather bureau to raise Signal No. 3 in two areas, and Signal No. 2 in 17 areas, including Metro Manila.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Karding intensified into a typhoon at 5 p.m., and was last located 490 kilometers (km) east of Baler, Aurora.

The provincial government of Aurora has suspended classes in all levels for Monday due to Severe Tropical Storm Karding (international name: Noru), which is expected to make landfall in the country on Sunday morning or afternoon.

The state weather bureau raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 2 in eight more areas after Severe Tropical Storm Karding (international name: Noru) further intensified as it moves to make landfall in the country.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Karding was last located 475 kilometers (kms) East of Casiguran, Aurora or 520 kms East of Baler, Aurora.
Magat Dam releases water ahead of rain from Severe Tropical Storm Karding

MANILA, Philippines – Magat Dam in Isabela released water on Saturday noon in preparation for rain that will be dumped by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Karding, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Pagasa’s Hydro-Meteorology Division said Magat Dam opened one gate at 12 p.m. and discharged 200 cubic meters of water per second (cms).
NDRRMC on red alert for Severe Tropical Storm Karding

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday said it has been on red alert since Friday, amid threats posed by Severe Tropical Storm Karding (international name: Noru).
“The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, has raised the NDRRMC Alert Status to RED effective 23 September 2022, 6:00 PM and activated NDRRMC EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Management Team effective 24 September 2022,” the council said in a statement.
