DSWD earmarks ₱1.6 B for Karding response, relief ops

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday said it has earmarked some ₱1.6 billion for super typhoon Karding response and relief operations.

A standby fund of ₱600,441,200.86 is available at the agency’s central offices and field offices

The department allocated over P1 billion for 548,889 family food packs and other food and non-food items.

Karding has since weakened into a typhoon as it made a second landfall in the vicinity of Dingalan, Aurora on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Karding is now in the vicinity of Santa Cruz, Zambales, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.
