Karding now a typhoon; Signal No. 3 up in Camarines Norte, Polillo Islands

Karding now a typhoon

MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Karding (international name: Noru) intensified into a typhoon on Saturday night, prompting the state weather bureau to raise Signal No. 3 in two areas, and Signal No. 2 in 17 areas, including Metro Manila.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Karding intensified into a typhoon at 5 p.m., and was last located 490 kilometers (km) east of Baler, Aurora.

It currently carries maximum sustained winds of 120 kms per hour (kps) near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph as it moves west southwestward at 20 kph.

“Per latest track and intensity forecast, the most likely highest wind signal that will be hoisted is Wind Signal No. 4,” said Pagasa in its latest typhoon bulletin.

Pagasa said heavy to intense with at times torrential rains should be expected over the northern portion of Quezon including the Polillo Islands, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pangasinan, and the northern portion of Zambales.

Meanwhile, heavy to intense rain is forecast over the rest of Central Luzon.

Moderate to heavy rains, on the other hand are expected over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Provinces, La Union, Metro Manila, and the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon).

Signal No. 3 (storm-force winds prevailing or expected in at least 18 hours) is up over the following areas:

  • The northern portion of Camarines Norte (Vinzons)
  • Eastern portion of the Polillo Islands (Kalongkooan Is., Kalotkot Is., Patnanungan Is., and Jomalig Is.)

Signal No. 2 (gale-force winds prevailing or expected within the next 24 hours) is up over the following areas:
