Tropical storm Karding intensifies, Signal No. 1 in 9 areas

Tropical storm Karding intensifies, Signal No. 1 in 9 areas

MANILA, Philippines —Tropical storm (TS) Karding (international name: Noru) intensified slightly on Saturday as it moved closer to Philippine landmass, prompting state meteorologists to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over more areas in Luzon. 

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa), in its early morning update, reported that Signal No. 1 is up over the following areas:

  • Isabela
  • Nueva Vizcaya 
  • Quirino 
  • Southern portion of mainland Cagayan (Peñablanca, Tuguegarao City, Iguig, Solana, Tuao, Enrile)
  • Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • Aurora
  • Northern and eastern portions of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Pantabangan, Gabaldon, Bongabon, Laur, Rizal, San Jose City, Lupao, Llanera, General Mamerto Natividad, Palayan City, General Tinio)

“Huli nating namataan ang bagyong Karding na may international name na “Noru” sa layong 795 kilometers silangan ng Tuguegarao City sa lalawigan ng Cagayan. Ito nga ay bahagyang lumakas at ang lakas niya ngayon ay nasa 85 kilometers per hour. Ito po ang pinakamalakas na hangin malapit sa gitna, at pagbugso naman na nasa 105 kilometers per hour,” said Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.

(Tropical storm  Karding, was spotted some 795 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.   It has partially intensified and has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 105 kilometers per hour).    

Areas under Signal No. 1, Pagasa said, will experience strong winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

Karding” is also projected to further intensify before making landfall over Northern Luzon by Sunday morning or afternoon.

Saturday forecast

The Visayas,  Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol region, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora can expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of “Karding” and the southwest monsoon or “habagat.” 

Metro Manila and rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon or localized thunderstorms, Pagasa added.
