Another weather disturbance is threatening the country after Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) battered parts of Luzon before leaving the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning.
The low pressure area earlier monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) some 1,800 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao has now strengthened into a tropical depression – and may even become a typhoon in the coming days, according to state meteorologists.

Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) is now out of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Thursday.
According to the state weather bureau, Egay left the PAR on Thursday morning. But it also said that even if the typhoon is already outside of the PAR, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) will be maintained in most parts of Luzon as Egay’s scope will still hit that portion of the country.

A large part of the city on Thursday, July 27, remained without electricity in the aftermath of Typhoon Egay (international name Doksuri) after strong winds and intense rains toppled power lines from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The crew of Benguet Electric Cooperative, which distributes electricity to the summer capital, have begun fixing electric posts and cables on Thursday to restore the power supply in this city immediately.\

NDRRMC: 5 reported dead, 325K people affected as Typhoon Egay, southwest monsoon lash PH

Five people have been reported killed while more than 325,000 people have been affected by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) and the southwest monsoon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
In a situation report released Thursday, the NDRRMC said the typhoon had affected 328,356 people or 89,639 families. This included 26,697 displaced persons and 19,826 people staying in various evacuation centers.

The state weather bureau has lifted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 as it expected the weakened Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within today, July 27.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Egay may further reduce strength as it moves west of Batanes at 15 kilometers per hour (kph). The typhoon was last located 195 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.

Fierce howling winds and heavy rains spawned by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) left at least five dead in Batangas, Rizal, and Ilocos Sur provinces, as the typhoon barreled through Luzon on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to reports gathered by the Inquirer.
More than 12,000 people in the hard-hit regions of Ilocos and Cagayan Valley huddled in temporary shelters while thousands of households were left without power, as Egay burst riverbanks, uprooted trees, ripped roofs off houses, and pounded coastal communities, including isolated villages tucked away in forests.

3 persons drown in Negros Occidental during Egay onslaught

Three persons drowned in Negros Occidental during heavy rains brought about by Super Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).
The bodies of Richard Espinosa, 19; Arnold Billojan, 48; and Victor Mahilum Moreno Jr., 32, were found in Bacolod City, and the towns of Hinigaran and Murcia in Negros Occidental on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 25 and 26.
Moreno, a construction worker, was found on the shore of Purok Sigay, Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Egay further weakens, but Ilocos Norte still under Signal No. 3

Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) further weakened as it moved over the waters of Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its Wednesday night bulletin.
The center of Egay was estimated to be 120 km west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and a gustiness reaching 190 kph.

Benguet Rep. Eric Yap has asked the national government for quick assistance as the province reels from the floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Egay.
Yap in a statement on Wednesday said the province direly needs the national government’s help as many of the residents in the affected-areas are still reeling from past calamities, like the Northwestern Luzon earthquake last July 2022.
Several of the province’s key thoroughfares have been impassable as of now, which Yap said has made relief and rescue operations difficult.

Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) has affected six roads in certain regions in Luzon and Mindanao, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Wednesday.
As of 6 a.m., DPWH said the strong winds and rains brought by Egat had rendered two road closures and affected lanes of four highways in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), and Central Mindanao.

Three North Luzon airports have sustained partial damage due to the effects of Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri), which continues to traverse the region.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported that flight operations at Laoag International Airport had been halted due to inclement weather. The agency added that the airport would temporarily transfer its domestic pre-departure area to a different location after sustaining partial damage to its ceiling and doors.

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall alert has been raised in some provinces of Luzon due to the effects of Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to its 11 a.m. heavy rainfall update, Pagasa said some provinces within the region were placed under “red,” “orange,” and “yellow” warnings, which means flooding and landslides may occur, especially in low-lying areas.
The state weather bureau said a red warning is raised when the amount of rainfall reaches 30 millimeters (mm) to 65 mm, orange when rainfall is between 15 mm and 30 mm, and yellow when rainfall ranges from 7.5 mm and 15 mm.
2 women drown as Egay triggers floods in Rizal province

LUCENA CITY — Two women were found drowned on Tuesday, July 25, in Cardona and Baras towns in Rizal province due to floods triggered by typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).
The Region 4A police reported on Wednesday that Adelfa Escolano, 71, was found dead at 11 a.m. on Tuesday after her house was swept by a flash flood in Barangay Iglesia in Cardona. Escolano was reported missing on Monday, July 24.
Escolano was sleeping alone inside their house when heavy rains poured around 7:45 p.m. on Monday. The heavy rains triggered a flash flood from the nearby creek and swept away the house with the victim inside.

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Heavy rains and fierce winds brought by Typhoon Egay (international name Doksuri) have displaced more than 2,000 families in Ilocos region so far, according to the regional Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday, July 26.
At least 208 families, or around 622 individuals, had been in evacuation centers across the region, the OCD said.

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Work in public offices in Ilocos Sur province was suspended on Tuesday, July 25, as northern Luzon prepares for super typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).
In an executive order, Gov. Jeremias “Jerry” Singson said the suspension would ensure “public welfare and safety” as the weather disturbance was forecast to dump moderate to intense rains and bring strong winds.

MANILA, Philippines —More than 9,600 people remain stranded in ports in Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Calabarzon and Metro Manila due to super typhoon Egay (international name Doksuri), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Tuesday.
As of 8:00 am, the PCG said out of the 9,682 passengers, truck drivers and cargo helpers, 5,889 are from Bicol Region; 2,214 in Eastern Visayas; 1,199 in Calabarzon; and 380 passengers in Metro Manila.

The NDRRMC said that the majority of them are from Western Visayas at 16,252 and then Northern Mindanao (177); Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon or collectively known as Calabarzon (144); Bicol Region (51); and Ilocos Region (10).

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Local officials on Tuesday suspended classes and government work in this city and in the towns of Gattaran, Allacapan, and Peñablanca, all in Cagayan province, due to the impact of Typhoon Egay (Doksuri), the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said.
The class suspension covered all levels in public and private schools, while those involved in emergency response and the delivery of essential services were exempt from the government work suspension.

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday said it was monitoring 6,748 barangays in 11 regions, including Metro Manila, affected by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) and the intensified “habagat” or southwest monsoon.

The NDRRMC said that of the 3,300 families or 11,185 people affected by the typhoon, 10,754 are from Western Visayas and 431 from Northern Mindanao.

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Egay (international name: Doksuri) on Sunday brought moderate to heavy rains that triggered floods in Pampanga province and prompted the suspension of land and sea travel in some parts of the Bicol region.
Egay, which later intensified into a typhoon, brought rains spawned by the southeast monsoon (“habagat”) that had been pouring earlier in the week, inundating at least 67 villages in Pampanga, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC).

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in several parts of Luzon will be on heightened alert in preparation for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s second State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 24 and the looming threat of severe tropical storm Egay (international name: Doksuri).
In a statement issued on Sunday, PCG said that the heightened alert status would start on Monday in the National Capital Region (NCR); Central, Northeastern, and Northwestern Luzon; Southern Tagalog; and Bicol Region.

LEGAZPI CITY – Sea travel in some areas in the Bicol region was suspended on Sunday, July 23, as Severe Tropical Storm Egay brought rough seas along the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, Coast Guard Lieutenant Esperanza Lazaro of Catanduanes Station said all small watercraft with 250 gross tonnages or less were advised not to venture into the sea because of the expected strong gale force wind.
The larger vessels were also alerted of possible big waves and rough seas.

MANILA, Philippines — The number of locals affected by the combined effects of tropical storm Egay (international name: Doksuri) and southwest monsoon or “habagat,” has reached more than 7,000, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.

MANILA, Philippines — President Bongbong Marcos has greenlighted the suspension of classes and work in the National Capital Region on Monday, July 24, in light of the 72-hour transport strike coinciding with the President’s State of the Nation Address (Sona), as well as the inclement weather that tropical storm Egay may bring.

Tropical Depression Egay has strengthened into a tropical storm as it moves westward over the Philippine Sea and may intensify further into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours, the state weather bureau said.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may be raised as early as Saturday afternoon (July 22) in parts of the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas even as Tropical Depression Egay has maintained its strength and speed.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Egay’s position was last marked 815 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon. It was still packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph as it was slowly moving west-northwestward at 10 kph.
