Gov’t prepares P173M for Egay response; power 93.53% restored — Bongbong Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — The government prepared a total of P173 million stand-by funds for the effects of Typhoon Egay, said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday.

Marcos, currently on a state visit to Malaysia, assured the public that the government response to the calamity is still ongoing.

“Nakahanda na ang mahigit PHP 173M na stand-by funds at ang food at non-food items, at nakadeploy na rin ang search, rescue, and retrieval personnel mula sa ating Armed Forces, Bureau of Fire Protection, at Coast Guard. Naibalik na rin ang kuryente sa 93.53% ng mga apektadong munisipalidad,” said Marcos in a Twitter post.

(More than P173 million worth of standby funds and food and non-food items, and we have deployed search, rescue, and retrieval personnel from the Armed Forces, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Coast Guard. Electricity has also been returned to 93.53% of affected municipalities.)

The President said that the government would ensure improved conditions for the 38,991 affected families from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Soccsksargen.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian has ordered the agency’s regional offices to assist in distributing aid to the affected areas.

“Secretary Gatchalian has also directed the Disaster Response and Management Team to immediately dispatch a total of 17,000 family food packs to four DSWD warehouses in the Cagayan Valley Region,” said the DSWD in a statement.

The DSWD has also distributed cash aid and food packs to affected people in Soccsksargen.
