Egay weakens; Ilocos Norte remains under Signal 3

Egay further weakens, but Ilocos Norte still under Signal No. 3

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) further weakened as it moved over the waters of Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its Wednesday night bulletin.

The center of Egay was estimated to be 120 km west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and a gustiness reaching 190 kph.

The typhoon’s current wind and gustiness are now weaker than previously reported wind strength of 165 kph and gustiness of 230 kph.

Egay may exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning.

The northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, under which winds greater than 89 kilometers per hour (kph) to up to 117 kph could be expected in at least 18 hours.

The following areas are under Signal No. 2, under which of greater than 62 kph and up to 88 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours:
