Pagasa: Super Typhoon Goring on the way out; Signal No. 1 in 5 areas

Super Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) will exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday night at the earliest, state meteorologists said.
“Goring is forecast to follow a mainly west-northwestward path across the Luzon Strait from today until it exits the PAR tonight or tomorrow morning,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its Wednesday afternoon bulletin.

Goring affected at least 196,000 in 7 regions; 1 person reported missing – NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Super Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) has so far affected 196,926 people in seven regions in Luzon and the Visayas.
In its latest situation bulletin, the NDRRMC also said it received a report that one person was missing due to inclement weather caused by Goring in Western Visayas (Region 6). The NDRRMC has received no reports of death or injuries as of August 30.

Manila, Philippines — Local flights have been canceled on Wednesday as super typhoon “Goring” devastates parts of Northern Luzon, said the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
Based on the state weather bureau’s latest typhoon bulletin, Goring was last spotted 90 kilometers west southwest of Basco, Batanes, bearing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts up to 240 kph.

MANILA, Philippines — Super typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) intensified further, bearing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 240 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday.
It is moving northwestward at 20 kph, and is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday evening or on Thursday morning. Pagasa said.

MANILA, Philippines — Goring (international name: Saola) strengthened back into a super typhoon on Tuesday evening, prompting Signal No. 5 to be raised over the Babuyan Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
Signal No. 5 means life-threatening weather, Pagasa warned.

Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 4 (typhoon-force winds with significant to severe threat to life and property) has been raised over the northeastern part of Babuyan Islands as Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) intensified slightly on Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Tuesday.
Pagasa, in its 5 p.m. typhoon bulletin, said that Goring was spotted some 165 kilometers (kms.) east of Calayan, Cagayan, with a maximum wind speed of 165 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 205 kph while moving west-northwest at 10 kph.

Some local flights were canceled on Tuesday due to the combined effects of Typhoon “Goring” (international name: Saola) and the southwest monsoon, said the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa).
According to the state weather bureau in a weather forecast, Goring is currently affecting several parts of Extreme Northern Luzon, strengthening the effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat.”
Goring was last spotted 175 kilometers (km) east northeast of Apari, Cagayan, or 190 km east southeast of Calayan, Cagayan, carrying wind speeds of 155 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 190 kph.

Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) maintained its strength as it continued to move towards the Luzon Strait, affecting several parts of Extreme Northern Luzon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday.
Pagasa, in its latest typhoon bulletin, said that Goring was last spotted 175 kilometers (km) east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, or 190 km east southeast of Calayan, Cagayan, carrying wind speeds of 155 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 190 kph.
According to Pagasa, Goring is now moving west-northwestward “slowly.”

Classes, work suspended in Occidental Mindoro due to Goring

CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro — The Occidental Mindoro provincial government has declared suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools, and work in government and private offices on Tuesday, Aug. 29, due to the threat of Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola).
Governor Eduardo Gadiano issued Executive Order No. 44 which mandated the suspension of classes and work. A copy of the order was posted on the governor’s social media page.

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) has maintained its strength as it was last sighted 220 kilometers (km) east of Aparri, Cagayan on Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.
The typhoon, which has maximum winds speeds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 190 kph, is moving north northwestward at 10 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its weather report.

Almost 8,000 people affected by Goring — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Almost 8,000 people in six regions nationwide have been affected by typhoon Goring, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) reported on Monday.
NDRRMC said of the 7,919 affected persons, most are in Cagayan Valley at 2,020; Western Visayas, 1,233; Ilocos region, 995; Calabarzon, 649; Mimaropa, 455; and Cordillera Administrative Region, 349.
Goring continues to weaken as cooler ocean waters, dry air take hold

Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) continues to weaken “due to upwelling of cooler ocean waters and the onset of dry air intrusion,” state meteorologists said on Monday.
Upwelling means deep, cold water rises toward the surface.
According to its latest update, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Goring’s center is located 245 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

Goring weakens to typhoon, may regain super typhoon status Tuesday

After weakening into a typhoon status on Monday, Goring is likely to return to the super typhoon category on Tuesday, state meteorologists said.
In its latest advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Goring was downgraded to typhoon category at around 2:00 am on Monday and will become a super typhoon again at 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
“Goring is forecast to slightly weaken further in the next 12 hours due to upwelling of cooler ocean waters and onset of dry air intrusion before re-intensifying as it turns northwestward,” Pagasa said.

Goring triggers floods in Ilocos Sur, Cagayan

Heavy rains spawned by the “habagat” (southwest monsoon) and enhanced by Supertyphoon “Goring” (international name: Saola) triggered floods and the evacuation of some 2,000 persons in Ilocos Sur and Cagayan provinces on Saturday and Sunday.
Ilocos Sur Gov. Jeremias Singson, in a radio interview on Saturday, said the affected families in his province were from the flooded low-lying areas in the towns of San Ildefonso, Santo Domingo and Narvacan.
In Narvacan, the town’s disaster risk and reduction management office (DRRMO) said its teams started on Saturday morning the preemptive evacuation of at least 200 individuals amid widespread flooding in several villages.

According to its afternoon heavy rainfall update, Pagasa said some provinces within the region were placed under a “yellow” warning, which means flooding may occur, especially in low-lying areas.

Tropical Storm Goring (international name: Saola) slightly intensified as it maintained its southwest track toward Cagayan.
The 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin showed Goring still slowly moving southwestward but now packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

Based on the 5 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) added Batanes, the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Island and Camiguin Island), and the northeastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan) to the list of areas under TCWS No. 1 expecting strong winds and 50 to 100 millimeters (mm) of heavy rainfall.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised in the northeastern of Cagayan due to tropical storm Goring (international name: Saola), said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday evening.
Pagasa, in its bulletin issued at 11 p.m., said dwellers in the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan may experience strong winds within the next 36 hours.

In its 5:00 p.m. update Pagasa said Goring (international name: Saola) was spotted some 265 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
It has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It is moving northwest at 10 kph.

Tropical Depression Goring is expected to intensify steadily and may become a typhoon tonight or tomorrow early morning (Friday).
Its “inherent volatility” or possibility to develop into a super typhoon is not ruled out, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned on Thursday.
In its bulletin issued at 11 a.m., the state weather bureau said Goring maintained its strength while moving over the Philippine Sea at least 355 kilometers east northeast of Calayan, Cagayan, or 300 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

LPA east of Cagayan is now Tropical Depression Goring, says Pagasa

The low pressure area (LPA) east of Cagayan has intensified into a tropical depression and is now locally named Goring, the state weather bureau said Thursday.
Goring was located 405 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, packing maximum wind speeds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa also said that Goring will have an irregular movement direction for the next five days, as it is expected to strengthen further into a typhoon.
