Only 486 new COVID-19 cases logged in Metro Manila, says Octa

MANILA, Philippines — Less than 500 new COVID-19 cases were logged in Metro Manila on Friday, a fellow of the independent analytics group Octa Research said Saturday.

Citing data from the Department of Health, Guido David said that of the 3,788 fresh infections posted on February 11, only 486 were from Metro Manila — the lowest recorded daily tally for the year.

The new figure is lower than 600 fresh cases recorded in Metro Manila on February 10.

David said that the seven-day average daily attack rate (ADAR) is at 5.5 while COVID-19 reproduction number dropped to 0.22.

ADAR is the average number of new COVID-19 infections per 100,000 people.

The reproduction number, meanwhile, is the number of new cases caused by one infected person.

According to experts, the ideal reproduction number is less than one to indicate a decline in cases.

The following is the breakdown of COVID-19 cases per local government in Metro Manila:

Manila – 91 new cases

Quezon City – 90 new cases

Makati – 49 new cases

Pasig – 39 new cases

Parañaque – 29 new cases

Taguig – 27 new cases

Caloocan – 26 new cases

Las Piñas – 26 new cases

Pasay – 25 new cases

Muntinlupa – 19 new cases

Mandaluyong – 18 new cases

Valenzuela – 17 new cases

Marikina – 9 new cases

San Juan – 9 new cases

Malabon – 4 new cases

Navotas – 4 new cases

Pateros – 1 new case

David recently said that Metro Manila is now at low risk for COVID-19.

He added that the capital region may reach “very low risk” for COVID-19 status by March.
