A decent haircut for a big day on Thursday.

Ronnie Dayan, the former driver, lover and alleged bagman of Senator Leila De Lima, was given a haircut as he took his time watching the Senate hearing on Kerwin Espinosa on Wednesday.

A photo from the sergeant-at-arms showed Dayan being given a haircut Wednesday morning.

Sergeant-at-arms Roland Detabali added that he even bought a polo and a pair of dress shoes for Dayan so that the latter could look good for his testimony on Thursday in the reopening of the inquiry in aid of legislation on the proliferation of drugs at the New Bilibid Prison.

“We bought him a new set of clothes na pwede siyang suotin bukas (that he can wear tomorrow),” Detabali said in an interview with reporters.

“Basically, from my own pocket… My task is really to protect him and make him look good for tomorrow,” Detabali added.

Detabali added that he took the initiative of buying clothes for Dayan who only wore a shirt, shorts and a pair of slippers when he was brought to the House of Representatives Tuesday night after his arrest.

Detabali said it was Dayan who requested for a haircut.

When Dayan saw a television set, he requested to watch the Senate hearing because he had been out of communication while in hiding, Detabali said, but the House sergeant-at-arms did not allow Dayan any communication gadget.

“Yung television, nandodoon na dati pa. He asked kung okay lang, matagal na siyang wala sa sirkulasyon,” Detabali said.

(There was a television set, and he asked if it would be okay to watch the news because he had long been out of communication.)

Dayan also underwent a medical checkup, where he was diagnosed with a high level of uric acid that probably explains his arthritis and some bruises, Detabali said.

“The doctors said himself that kaya niya for tomorrow (he can make it tomorrow),” Detabali said.

Detabali said Dayan had vowed to tell the truth in Thursday’s testimony.

“Ang paliwanag niya sa amin (His explanation to us is) he will tell all the truth,” Detabali said.

Dayan was arrested in La Union at 11:30 a.m. last Tuesday after he was cited in contempt for snubbing the House of Representatives inquiry in aid of legislation on the proliferation of drugs at the New Bilibid Prison implicating De Lima.

During the turnover by the police to the House of Representatives Tuesday night, Dayan admitted receiving drug kickbacks from Espinosa for De Lima, an allegation the laday senator said was a lie.

De Lima has vehemently denied the allegation, pointing out that allies of President Duterte have an ax to grind against her since she has crossed swords with Duterte. De Lima as human rights chair investigated the alleged links of Duterte to the Davao Death Squad when the latter was mayor.

But De Lima has admitted to having an affair with Dayan, but said both of them were separated from their marriages at the time. De Lima has also expressed fears Dayan might be forced to testify against her. RAM
