MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) near Mindanao can develop into a tropical cyclone on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Friday.
The LPA was once Tropical Depression Querubin.
Pagasa previously said that “through Sunday (22 December), this LPA will traverse Mindanao, the Sulu Sea, and Palawan.”
“There’s still the possibility the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone on Sunday while it moves near the West Philippine Sea,” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said in Fillipino.
In its early morning bulletin, Pagasa said the LPA was spotted over the coastal waters of Mahinog, Camiguin at 2:00 a.m.
Badrina said the LPA will trigger rain showers in many parts of the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan.
