MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Wednesday welcomed the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s decision to return several weapons belonging to the policemen killed in an alleged misencounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last month.

However, Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said that while it “partially” answers President Benigno Aquino III’s call to the MILF to cooperate they still need to show “concrete evidence” such as the following:

  • assist the government in arresting terrorist Basit Usman
  • hold those involved in the killing of the 44 policemen accountable
  • return the weapons and other objects taken from the Special Action Force (SAF)
