Brgy councilor, 5 others arrested for theft
A BARANGAY councilor in Toledo City and five others were arrested in barangay Cogon, Cebu City, for theft yesterday afternoon.
Barangay Bunga councilor Fausto Oberes was accused with five others of taking things from the rented house of 19-year-old Mary Luz Candoli.
Candoli, a first year hotel and restaurant management student in a Cebu City university, was allegedly shot dead by her live-in partner Julito Ponce on April 11.
Others arrested were Mirasol Candoli, Herlene Candoli, Bernie Calvante Gabato, Romualdo Calvante Gabato and Leonardo Aballe Navarro.
The arrest stemmed after Ponce’s sister Juditha reported the incident to the police.
A team led by PO3 Bobby Escarlan of Pardo police station caught the six suspects loading a TV set, air-conditioning unit, a table, a foam bed among others to the multicab owned by barangay Bunga.
Juditha said the things belonged to her brother Julito, who is now detained at the Cebu City Jail for murder charges.
However, Mirasol also claimed those were her slain sister’s things.
Councilor Oberes said the Bunga barangay captain cleared him to use the multicab to transport the items back to Toledo City./correspondent chito aragon
