Jesus Nazareno’s andas tilts on Bilibid Viejo Street in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — The carriage, or andas, of the Jesus Nazarene image tilted as it passed through Bilibid Viejo Thursday evening.

According to the devotees, the ropes of the andas were already cut when it arrived at the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian for the traditional “Dungaw” or the meeting of the images of Jesus Nazareno and Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

“They are having a hard time moving the andas because the ropes were cut. That’s why the andas keeps moving back and forth,” devotee Leo Austria told INQUIRER.net in Filipino during the procession.

Austria said the andas is supposed to have two ropes, with one on each side. The ropes help the Hijos de Nazarenos pull the andas during the procession, he explained.

As of writing, the andas is headed towards Hidalgo Street and is still on its way to the Quiapo Church.

It arrived for the Dungaw at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
