A 74-year-old man was swept away by floodwaters in Viga town in Catanduanes on Thursday morning (Jan. 9).

LEGAZPI CITY – A 74-year-old man was swept away by floodwaters in Viga town in Catanduanes on Thursday morning (Jan. 9).

The municipal disaster risk reduction and management office said before Rufo Torres went missing, he tried to cross a river to feed his carabao in Barangay (village) Begonia at around 7 a.m.

The officials immediately conducted search and rescue operations but were temporarily halted at 3 p.m. due to the bad weather. Heavy rains brought by a shear line have been affecting the province since Tuesday night (Jan. 7).
