Soldier drowns in Catanduanes river

An Army soldier drowned on Tuesday, Feb. 28, while crossing a river in San Miguel town in Catanduanes province.

VIRAC, Catanduanes — An Army soldier drowned on Tuesday, Feb. 28, while crossing a river in San Miguel town in Catanduanes province.

The San Miguel municipal police reported that Private Rodney De Jesus, 26, a member of the forward operating base Alpha Company of the 83rd Infantry Battalion under the 9th Infantry Division, went to look for vegetables with other colleagues on the other side of a river in Barangay (village) Pagsangahan when he was swept away by the strong current around 8 a.m.

Personnel from the San Miguel municipal disaster risk and reduction management office (MDRRMO) recovered the body of De Jesus a few hours later in the nearby village of Balatohan.
