MANILA, Philippines — “Everything is possible,” including Vice President Leni Robredo working with President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the future, or they may even become allies, the incoming Chief Executive’s sister, Senator Imee Marcos said on Wednesday.

In an interview with ANC, the idea of Robredo working under the administration of BBM — the moniker used by the President-elect during the campaign — was broached, to which the lady senator acknowledged may not be too implausible as may be perceived by some.

Robredo and Marcos Jr. were stiff rivals both in the 2016 vice presidential race, and onto the May 2022 presidential race. Marcos lost to Robredo in 2016, but overwhelmingly won the 2022 polls over her.

“Everything is possible… yun ang sinasabi ng nanay ko: walang masamang tinapay, baka maging kaalyado mo pa. I think this is what we need to do,” the senator told ANC in an interview on Wednesday.

Earlier, the elder Marcos sibling suggested forming a “team of rivals” for the incoming Cabinet of his brother’s administration.

“In the beginning, we discussed that it should be ‘Uniteam’ and I coined that Uniteam moniker for the campaign… But it’s not a mere slogan, it’s a real platform of government. It’s a real management and action program. So it’s important that we carry through with the team of rivals in the classic and revered manner of the late great president Abraham Linconn—inviting all his rivals to the Cabinet,” the senator said.

“Ganun din si Presidente [Barrack] Obama, he invited Hillary Clinton, his bitter rival, time and again,” she recalled.

Second chances

Marcos then stressed the importance of setting aside “all recriminations and bitterness” from the elections to “move forward” by choosing the “best and the brightest” for the country.

“I’ve spoken also of a second chance and the truth is, sometimes, a second chance is better than the first time around because you learned your mistakes from the first time. And it’s a second chance, not only for my family, as it were or for my father and the revisiting of his legacy, but more importantly it’s a second chance for the country,” Marcos added.

“We start with an even playing field, accepting all those Filipino who are willing to serve and are capable of giving their best to our country. So, it’s a second chance for the Philippines,” she also said.
