RP software firm offers platform to deploy Facebook apps

MANDALUYONG CITY, Philippines -- A Philippine software company said it was allowing any company to use its web-based environment to deploy Facebook applications using an open source framework, an executive told reporters here.
Staying true to its philosophy of providing software as a service, Morph Labs said it was opening up its virtual application environment AppSpace to Facebook application developers wanting to deploy such applications using Ruby on Rails, said Winston Damarillo, executive chairman of Morph Labs.
Ruby on Rails is one of the popular open source frameworks used to develop database-backed web applications. Morph Labs said that Ruby on Rails allows faster, simpler and more efficient deployment of web applications.
"This is a pre-built platform for Facebook," added Damarillo.
Damarillo pointed out that Facebook application developers need a flexible environment that also saves them the burden of managing the applications.
Citing industry reports, Morph Labs said that a quarter of Facebook applications currently support more than 100,000 daily users. Morph Labs said there are more than 70 million Facebook users worldwide.
Morph AppSpace is a virtual platform that offers a fully configured, distributed and monitored environment that can be used by developers of Facebook applications.
Morph Labs is a Philippines-based company engaged in the business of providing software as a service. It uses open source technologies mainly to simplify management and delivery of web applications.
It has been using virtual infrastructures including Amazon Web Services to provide virtual hosting environment for web applications.
