MANILA, Philippines — Whether you like him or not, Juan Ponce Enrile has been a witness to important events that have shaped the country’s history.
He was a central figure during the martial law era in the 1970s; he played a key role in the overthrow of the Marcos dictatorship in 1986, and he remained part of the country’s state of affairs decades after, when his contemporaries had either retired or died.
That’s why it’s no surprise that Enrile’s views on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte and the issues that surround it are well-sought after, him being a veteran of two impeachment proceedings in the Senate.
