Teves to undergo appendectomy at PGH – counsel

MANILA, Philippines — Detained former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr.  has been transferred to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) where he is set to undergo appendectomy, his legal counsel said Wednesday.

It was around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening when Teves’ lawyer Atty. Ferdinand Topacio first announced that the expelled lawmaker’s transfer to PGH was approved.

“Rep. Arnolfo Teves is scheduled to go under the knife within the hour for appendectomy. He is under the care of Dr. Ancoy Lopez,” Topacio later told reporters in an update past 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, appendectomy is a major surgical procedure done to remove the appendix when it is infected—a condition known as appendicitis.

Teves was first hospitalized on Tuesday morning after suffering from stomach pains.

Topacio earlier said that all trial courts where Teves has pending cases have already been informed of the expelled lawmaker’s situation. /cb
