Zubiri thanks League of Provinces for endorsing his Senate bid
MANILA, Philippines — Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri has been named as one of the six common candidates endorsed by the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) for the upcoming elections.
“I am incredibly grateful to receive the trust and support of the LPP,” said Zubiri. “It is affirming and motivating to know that they recognize our hard work in the Senate, particularly as Majority Leader. We are all partners in service, so I am glad to have developed a productive relationship with our governors over the years, allowing us to align our legislative agenda with the priorities of our provincial governments.
The LPP, made up of 81 governors and headed by Marinduque Gov. Presbiterio Velasco, Jr., is endorsing only six senatorial candidates. Along with Zubiri, the league is endorsing Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, Gov. Chiz Escudero, and Sec. Mark Villar.
“As we saw all throughout this pandemic, we really need to strengthen the governmental and fiscal capacity of our LGUs, so they can provide more efficient and more immediate services to their constituencies,” Zubiri stressed. “The next few years are crucial for our LGUs, as we continue to recover from the pandemic. So the LPP has my word that, should I gain the country’s confidence to take on another term, I will keep on advocating for the legislative and budgetary needs of our LGUs.”
