PH logs 1,038 new COVID-19 cases; total infections now 3,661,049
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines logged 1,038 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, driving the total caseload to 3,661,049.
Based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest bulletin, 1,015 of the fresh infections occurred within the last 14 days.
Meanwhile, there were 1,999 more recoveries and 51 deaths, raising the total of each to 3,551,687 and 56,401, respectively.
Nine of the additional fatalities happened within the month, two in January, while 40 were from last year.
Active cases stood at 52,961 — 47,910 are mild cases; 2,780 are moderate cases; 1,417 are severe cases; 556 are asymptomatic; and 298 are critical cases.
The DOH noted its removal of duplicates and reclassifications on the overall case count.
Article continues after this advertisement“[Nine] duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, three are recoveries and one is a death,” the health agency said in a statement.
Article continues after this advertisement“Moreover, 44 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.
The positivity rate further dropped to five percent, within the World Health Organization’s benchmark of five percent and below.
Only one laboratory failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on February 25.
