PH posts 1,223 new COVID-19 cases; total case count now 3,660,020

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines posted 1,223 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, raising the overall case count to 3,660,020.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that 96 percent of the fresh infections happened in the past 14 days.

Metro Manila is the top region with the most cases in the last two weeks, followed by Western Visayas and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon).

The health agency reported that 2,400 patients have recovered from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Total recoveries now stand at 3,549,735.

Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 56,351 as 128 more individuals died from COVID-19.

Of the additional fatalities, 25 occurred within the month, 28 in January, two in December 2021, five in November 2021, 35 in October 2021, and 33 in September 2021.

With these figures, the active cases are now at 53,934 — 48,842 are mild cases; 2,780 are moderate cases; 1,417 are severe cases; 597 are asymptomatic; and 298 are critical cases.

The DOH likewise pointed out that there were removed duplicates and reclassification of cases.

“Ninety-five duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 80 are recoveries and 1 is a death,” the DOH said in a statement.

“Moreover, 113 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.

Furthermore, the positivity slightly dipped to 5.3 percent, a bit higher than the World Health Organization’s benchmark of five percent and below.

DOH noted that four laboratories have not submitted data in the COVID-19 Document Repository System on February 24.
