Street food vendors allowed in MECQ areas — Palace

MANILA, Philippines — As long as physical distancing is observed, street food vendors are allowed to sell their munchies in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine, Malacañang said Friday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque explained they are now allowed to go out just as others are also allowed to go out for limited outdoor exercises under the MECQ.

“Alam niyo kasi kung pinapayagan na yung paglabas ng bahay para mag-exercise, tumakbo, magbisikleta, so sa tingin ko, pupwede na basta ‘wag lang sila kukumpol-kumpol. ‘Yan po ang iniiwasan natin,” Roque said in an interview over GMA-7 when asked if street food vendors will be allowed to sell in MECQ areas.

(If the people are allowed to go out to exercise, jog and cycle, I think they are also allowed as long as there will be no crowding. That is what we are avoiding.)

Limited outdoor exercises like jogging and cycling and non-contact sports are allowed in areas under MECQ.

Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City are shifting to MECQ starting Saturday, May 16 until May 31.

Under MECQ, several businesses are also permitted to resume operations provided that health protocols are observed and that only half of the workforce will report onsite, with the other half doing work from home.
