Tropical Storm Ambo: Red rainfall warning up in Quezon province; ravaging floods loom
MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Quezon province were advised to prepare for destructive floods in flood-prone areas as the state weather agency hoisted a red rainfall warning over the area due to rains spawned by severe Tropical Storm Ambo (international name: Vongfong).
Meanwhile, a yellow rainfall warning was raised in Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, and Batangas, according to an advisory issued by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
A red rainfall warning, as state meteorologists define it, is usually when 30 millimeters of rain are accumulated in a span of an hour and is expected to continue for the next two hours.
Meanwhile, a yellow rainfall warning means heavy rainfall between 7.5 to 15 millimeters in an hour is observed and is expected to persist for the next two hours.
Previously, Pagasa said that Ambo weakened into a severe tropical storm while moving towards the Quezon-Laguna area.
Twenty-seven areas are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 due to Ambo.
