ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sulu freed a teacher they had abducted in Patikul town on Tuesday but no ransom was paid, the military said Friday.

Major Filemon Tan Jr., spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command, said Adrina Bongil, a teacher at the Tuup Elementary School in Patikul town, was released a day after she was abducted.

He said Bongil was immediately brought to the house of Patikul Mayor Kabir Elias Hayudini and  subsequently turned over to her relatives in Jolo town.
