A tandem between Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano will be a worthy competitor of the team-up of Senators Grace Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero in the 2016 elections, majority of INQUIRER.net readers said.

In an online poll conducted by INQUIRER.net, 52.28 percent of respondents or equivalent to 37,963 out of 72,611 readers said a Roxas-Cayetano tandem will be a “good match” against the preference poll frontrunners.

A total of 26,398 voters or 36.36 percent picked the tandem of Roxas and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, whom the former Interior secretary formally asked to be his running mate last week.

The ruling LP had wooed Poe to be its vice presidential bet in next year’s polls, but the lady senator formally declared that she will seek the highest national post last Sept. 16.

Aside from Robredo and Cayetano, LP was also reportedly eyeing Batangas Governor Vilma Santos and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima as Roxas’ running mate.

Meanwhile, a pairing between Vice President Jejomar Binay and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada garnered 6.84 percent or 4,964 of the total votes.

In previous interviews, however, Estrada rejected offers to become the vice presidential candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance in 2016. The former president also expressed intentions to seek a second term as mayor of the nation’s capital city.
