MANILA, Philippines–A traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was arrested Wednesday for allegedly extorting P200 from a truck driver in Quezon City.

Edelito Corilla, 42, of Valenzuela City, allegedly flagged down George Basubas, 51, around 1 a.m. along University Lane in Barangay (village) San Vicente for a “yellow lane” violation, Superintendent Richard Fiesta, commader of Anonas Police Station, said in a report.

Corilla asked Basubas for his driver’s license and “solicited P200 in consideration for the non-issuance of a unified organized violation receipt (UOVR),” the report said.

After the apprehension, Basubas gave Corilla P200 but was later flagged down again by operatives of Task Force Anti-Crime Advocate.

Basubas then reported the incident to the members of the task force, who later arrested the MMDA personnel.

“The complainant told the task force about the incident that resulted in Corilla’s arrest and the recovery of the P200 bill,” police said.
In a separate interview, MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said Corilla has been suspended and will be charged with direct bribery, a violation of Article 210 of the Revised Penal Code.
