MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rains will persist in thirteen areas across Luzon and Visayas on Wednesday due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon or amihan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In a morning forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja explained that the northeast monsoon will influence the weather in Northern and Central Luzon, while the shear line will affect Southern Luzon and Visayas.

(In the Bicol Region, the rains are due to the shear line or the meeting of warm and cold air masses which will also affect Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon.)

Pagasa also predicts cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in the Visayas, Palawan, and Dinagat Islands.

Estareja added that Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon will experience cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Localized thunderstorms may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the rest of the country, according to Estareja.

Pagasa hoisted a gale warning in the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon due to the northeast monsoon.

(Currently, the gale warning is focused on the Calaguas Islands and the northern coast of Catanduanes, where waves can reach up to 4.5 meters from morning until afternoon.)
