Albay under state of calamity

MANILA, Philippines—The province of Albay has been placed under state of calamity due to Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun).

This was confirmed by Albay Governor Joey Salceda in a television interview on Tuesday night.

Glenda first made landfall in Rapu-Rapu Island in Albay on Tuesday afternoon. Television footage showed the strong winds and heavy rains from the typhoon.

Salceda said the declaration was advised by the Office of Civil Defense and his local constituents to hasten recovery efforts.

No casualties were reported so far.
