LTFRB inspects 27 buses of Florida Transport

MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) started its inspection of GV Florida Transport buses on Sunday, checking 27 units at a terminal in Sampaloc, Manila.

LTFRB chair Winston Ginez said they were inspecting for other buses “illegally operated” by Florida. He also led the removal of the bus license plates after the issuance of a 30-day suspension on the bus line.

Florida owned the bus that fell into a ravine in Bontoc, Mountain Province last Friday that left 14 people, including comedian Arvin “Tado” Jimenez, dead.

Ginez explained that the bus was using a license plate registered to Norberto Que, Sr., owner of Mountain Province Cable Tours. The franchise and the units of the company was sold to Florida last year but had not been processed for transfer or had undergone other necessary applications.

Florida bus legal counsel Alexander Versoza admitted their mistake, arguing that they are still arranging the document for the sale and transfer application.

“With the inspection results, we will also be able to determine the other violations committed by the company and assess the penalties for the negligence committed,” Ginez told media.
