HABAL DRIVER TRIES TO STEAL YACHT

A HABAL-HABAL driver who was reportedly mentally unstable allegedly tried to steal a yacht docked in a private wharf in barangay Looc, Mandaue City.

Joel Cacha, 24, managed to switched on the yacht’s engine but the boat’s propeller got snagged in the mooring line.

The yacht, worth P8 million, is owned by Rey Sanchez, police said.

Police said the yacht docked around 100 meters from the wharf.

Around 11 p.m., the boat  captain Panfilo Dela Cruz disembarked from the yacht and went to the wharf on board an outrigger.

The yacht’s caretaker was left behind.

Police said Cacha rode the same outrigger boarded by Dela Cruz to reach the yacht.

Dela Cruz was surprise to see a man who was later identified as Cacha on board the yacht.

Cacha turned on the engine of the yacht.

Police said that according to Dela Cruz, turning the engine of a yacht is similar to starting the engine of a car.

Cruz hurriedly rode the banca and sought help from Dela Cruz.

Dela Cruz tried to talk down Cacha.

Police said when asked where he was going, Cacha answered “Manila.”

Police said Dela Cruz noticed that Cacha was not in the right frame of mind while convincing him to calm down.

Dela Cruz called the police when Cacha calmed down.

Cacha was later brought to the Opao police station.

MAN DIES IN BOGO ROAD ACCIDENT

A 21-YEAR -OLD man died after the motorcycle he was driving was hit by an Elf truck in a national highway in barangay Dakit, Bogo City, northern Cebu.

Richard Codiera sustained head and body injuries. He was brought to the hospital but did not make it alive.

The driver of the truck, Clyde Provida, surrendered to the police after the accident.

According to witnesses, the truck was running at high speed when it hit the crossing motorcycle, said PO1 Jemiren Arnado of Bogo police.

The impact threw Codiera of the motorcycle and landed hard in the concrete pavement.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide will be filed against Provida, police said./Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito

POLICE ROUND UP MINORS

POLICE rounded up seven minors allegedly involved in petty crimes in Mango Avenue, Cebu City Monday night.

Insp. William Alicaba, chief of Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) of the Cebu City police, said police the apprehension was made to reports of snatching incidents in the area.

Some of the minors also served as pimps.
