SWU absorbs third straight FilOil defeat

/ 07:03 AM April 21, 2013

THE SOUTHWESTERN University (SWU) Cobras continued their downward spiral, this time losing to the La Salle Green Archers in humongous fashion, 61-98, in the FilOil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

The loss was the Cobras’ third straight, dropping them to the bottom of the standings in their group.

SWU, the reigning champions in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), actually scored the game’s first three points but that was all she wrote for them as the Archers proceeded to rout them until the final buzzer.

Almond Vosotros anchored the early breakaway with three three pointers en route to establishing a 28-10 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.  He eventually finished with 17 points, four rebounds and five assists.

Norbert Torres also provided frontcourt scoring with 16 markers as La Salle led by as many as 37 points and coasted to its second straight win.

Cesafi Mythical Five member Monbert Arong paced the Cobras with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals.

In the first game, the Adamson Soaring Falcons slipped past the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 68-67, thanks to two pressure-packed freethrows by Don Trollano that spoiled a huge comeback by the latter.

Ingrid Sewa paced Adamson with 12 points while Rodney Brondial and Jericho Cruz each had 10 markers. Terrence Romeo paced FEU with 21 but missed the potential game-winner as time expired.
