Rama urged: Share management of Guba hospital

PLANS to have the Guba district hospital co-managed by the Vicente Sotto Medical Center and the Cebu City Medical Center were floated anew during the turnover of P14 million worth of medical equipment to the hospital yesterday.

Former congressman Raul del Mar and his daughter, Rep. Rachel del Mar, urged City Council and barangay officials to convince Mayor Michael Rama to approve the co-management plan.

“Cutie and I wanted to see stronger support from the City Council and the barangay residents.  He may listen,” the elder Del Mar said.

Guba barangay captain Renerio Limotan said a resolution is better than a petition.

A law was passed in 2001 creating the Guba district hospital to function as satellite hospital of Vicente Sotto Medical Center.

But the hospital’s operations were devolved under the Local Government Code.

The elder Del Mar said the Guba hospital was merely used as an “outpatient clinic” because of lack of city funds for its operations.

He said co-management will only complement, not take over Guba hospital’s operations.

But Rama opposed the co-management plans because he wanted the Cebu City Medical Center to run the hospital instead.
