Five Cebuano families were honored last night at a dinner as part of the 75 Families of Distinction in Cebu City in celebration of its 75th Charter Anniversary.

It was the turn of clans of Abadia, Cuenco, Gullas, Lhuillier and Rama to be feted.

The Abadia clan has members known for their musicality while the Gullas clan, which counts among them Rep. Eduardo Gullas and University of the Visayas owner and newspaper publisher Jose Gullas, was recognized for school service, medicine and good governance.

A different cluster of families is honored every month by the city government.

The theme for the awardees this month is “musicality and creativity.”

A testimonial dinner for the five families was held at the Sinulog Hall in the Cebu City Rizal Public Library.

Antonio Cuenco, former congressman and now Secretary-General of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, was present.

Cuenco previously announced that he will be running for his old seat in Congress in 2013 and will be supporting Mayor Michael Rama’s reelection bid.

The selection of 75 Cebuano families was initiated by the private sector to reestablish the strong foundation and values of the Cebuano family.
