19 localities in Cavite suspend classes due to bad weather

LUCENA CITY — At least 19 municipalities in Cavite province suspended classes in public and private schools Friday (Sept. 1) due to inclement weather brought by Severe Tropical Storm Hanna (international name: Haikui) .

Authorities in the cities of Cavite, Imus, Trece Martires, Bacoor, General Trias, and Dasmariñas declared the suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools due to Hanna, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office announced on Thursday night.

The local governments in the towns of Naic, Noveleta, Silang, Alfonso, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Kawit, Maragondon, Indang, Tanza, Ternate, Mendez, Magallanes, and Amadeo also suspended school classes.

Most of these local governments had suspended school classes around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

On Thursday, Malacañang announced the suspension of classes at all levels and government work in the National Capital Region on Friday due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclones.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its Friday 5 a.m. bulletin, said Hanna was last located 870 kilometers east of the extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 110 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

Pagasa has yet to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals in affected areas as of Friday morning. INQ
