Flood warnings up in many regions due to Hanna-enhanced monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued flood warnings in several regions on Friday due to the southwest monsoon (habagat), which is enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Hanna (international name: Haikui).

In its advisories, Pagasa identified some river basins and areas that may be submerged in floodwaters:

“Local flooding is possible in some areas due to poor drainage systems and impounding water,” Pagasa warned, referring to the situation in the Pasig-Marikina-Tullahan River Basin.

Ipo Dam in Bulacan has started spilling operations with one gate open.

Bulacan residents in the following areas near the Angat River are advised to take precautions:

The following rivers and tributaries are likewise being monitored by Pagasa, because of the threat of flooding:

Apayao – upper Abulug and upper Pamplona

Abra – upper Abra, Tineg, and Ikmin

Benguet – upper Bauang

Region I – Ilocos region

Ilocos Norte – lower Abra, Silay-Sta. Maria, Buaya, and Amburayan

Ilocos Sur – Bulu, Banban, Bacarra-Vintar, Laoag, and Quaioit

Region III – Central Luzon

Bataan – particularly lower Balanga and Morong

Ilocos Sur – particularly Pamatawan, Sto. Tomas, Bucao, Bancal, and Lawis

Region IV-A – Calabarzon

Cavite – Laboc (Balsahan), Cañas, Ylang-ylang, Imus, and Maragondon

Rizal – upper Marikina and Kaliwa

Batangas – Lian, Banabang-Molino, Pansipit, Kapumpong, Rosario-Lobo, and Upper Bolbok (Lawaya)

Region IV-B – Mimaropa
