Senate resolution honors late broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Jinggoy Estrada has filed a resolution expressing the upper chamber’s sincere condolences to the passing of broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez.

In his proposed Senate Resolution No, 770, Estrada stated that the journalist’s passing is a “great loss” to the Filipino nation.

“Enriquez’s trademark voice, distinct style of delivering news, and hard-hitting commentaries have become part of countless Filipino households and shaped the consciousness of the citizens about the pressing social issues and current affairs,” said Estrada.

Enriquez died on August 29, 2023, at the age of 71.

According to Estrada, Enriquez should serve as an inspiration for aspiring mass media practitioners and the younger generations to “pursue excellence and hone their craft with purpose and passion.”

Meanwhile, in a separate statement issued Friday, Senator Sonny Angara said he was also set to file a measure that will extend the Senate’s condolences and sympathies to Enriquez’ family.

The office of Angara told reporters that the resolution will be filed on Monday, September 4.

Similar to what Estrada pointed out, Angara said Enriquez serves as a role model for young and budding journalists.

“His legacy as one of the most admired and respected personalities in broadcast media will be remembered and celebrated by millions of Filipinos here and abroad; and his passion in bringing credible and trustworthy news to all will serve as a foundation and inspiration, not just to his colleagues, but also to young Filipinos aspiring to become journalists themselves,” said Angara.
