Environmental groups lamented that President Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday only broached the topics of climate change, disaster response and resilience, and the so-called circular economy but failed to address major environmental issues facing the country.

The House of Representatives can approve 10 of the 17 proposed measures that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. mentioned in his State of the Nation Address (Sona) before the year ends, Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said in a statement on Tuesday.

Romualdez said that the House would work on the bills as these would help make the country a more conducive place for businesses that could create more jobs for Filipinos.

The absence of any mention in President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s second State of the Nation address (Sona) of reclamation projects has left groups dismayed.

Despite continuous calls from climate advocates, environmentalists, marine scientists, and fisherfolk groups to stop destructive reclamation projects in Manila Bay and other parts of the country, there was no mention of the issue in Marcos Jr.’s second Sona delivered on Monday, July 24.

The second State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was generally peaceful and orderly” with no untoward incidents, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a statement on Monday.

All public engagements and activities nationwide, especially in the vicinity of the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City and 31 border control points within Metro Manila where protests were staged, were orderly and peaceful.

Members of the Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) gave President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday a “failed” rating for his first year in office as they expressed their dismay over his “Health for All” thrust, describing it as an “empty rhetoric” and mere “hollow promises.”

“In his first Sona (State of the Nation Address), President Marcos Jr. vowed to exert all efforts to improve the welfare of our health workers but in reality, he did not take any steps to fulfill his promise,” Robert Mendoza, the AHW national president, said after the chief executive’s second State of the Nation Address (Sona) .

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants a whole-of-society approach to tackling HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

That was part of Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (Sona) at the Batasan Hills Complex in Quezon City.

“The whole of society must exert efforts to suppress the alarming rise of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. To stem the tide, the strategic plan is to ensure early diagnosis and treatment, and ample testing sites and medications. Our healthcare system is undergoing structural changes,” Marcos said.

More than 60 rounds of applause and a standing ovation marked the second State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The one-hour and 11-minute speech on Monday, July 24,  got a total of 68 rounds of applause and only one standing ovation, which happened as Marcos ended the Sona.

Despite calls from some lawmakers for the government to take a decisive stance on whether or not to ban Philippine offshore gaming operations, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made no mention of this issue during his second State of the Nation Address on Monday.

Hours before Marcos delivered his Sona, Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel and Senate ways and means panel chair Sherwin Gatchalian pressed the chief of state to explain the continued existence of Pogos despite the alarming rise of crimes allegedly linked to this industry.

But in his speech that lasted for over an hour, Marcos did not once raise the issue of Pogos.

Up to the very last minute, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made no direct mention of the West Philippine Sea issue during his second State of the Nation Address at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday.

Fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) was “dismayed” by Marcos’ “non-mention of the state of our national sovereignty, particularly in the West Philippine Sea.”

Bataan First District Rep. Geraldine Roman said Monday she does not anticipate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will certify the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) equality bill as urgent.

Roman, who didn’t elaborate on her reasoning, made the comment during her red carpet appearance at Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (Sona). She did note that Marcos had already met with the LGBT community during Pride Month in June.

“I don’t think so,” Roman told INQUIRER.net when asked about the likelihood of the SOGIE bill’s urgent certification by the President.

In light of Marcos’ State of the Nation address, the group Alyansa Contra Mina said Marcos and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Toni Yulo-Loyzaga “have not acted on the demands of mining-affected communities” particularly the residents of Sibuyan Island in Romblon and Brooke’s Point in Palawan.

In an ambush interview at the Batasang Pambansa, Acorda said Marcos could cite in his second State of the Nation Address (Sona) the country’s declining crime rate.

KORONADAL CITY — Some members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) expressed their wish on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,’s second state of the nation address (SONA) on July 24 that former members of Moro rebel groups, who signed peace deals with the government, be given blanket amnesty.

In a statement issued on Sunday, PCG said that the heightened alert status would start on Monday in the National Capital Region (NCR); Central, Northeastern, and Northwestern Luzon; Southern Tagalog; and Bicol Region.

MANILA, Philippines — The upcoming State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would be “nearly back to normal,” as the House of Representatives anticipates more attendees than last year.

According to House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, they expect the plenary’s 1,700 to 2,000 seating capacity to be filled up, and they also assured attendees there would be contingency measures especially since around 400 seats were removed when the House remodeled the plenary.

MANILA, Philippines — Guests at the second State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, will no longer be asked to undergo health protocols like testing.

Proposed P5.768-T 2024 budget nearly done, may be submitted days after Sona — Pangandaman

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has clarified that specialty hospitals under the Department of Health (DOH) did not suffer budget cuts, as allocations under the 2023 National Expenditures Program (NEP) were either similar or higher if compared to the proposed 2022 budget.

The P5.768 trillion proposed national budget for 2024 just needs to be presented to the Cabinet officials on Thursday, June 22, before the final approval, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said on Wednesday.

Pangandaman, at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, said that they had already shown the budget to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, while the Cabinet officials can have their chance to look and check the proposal by Thursday afternoon.

MANILA, Philippines — The vicinity of the Batasang Pambansa complex in Quezon City is declared a no-fly zone on President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (Sona), the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Friday.

NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, in a statement, said that aircraft and drones are not allowed over the Batasang Pambans on July 24, when Marcos delivers his second Sona.

Police to exercise maximum tolerance during Sona

Police will exercise maximum tolerance for those who will stage protests during President Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 24, Philippine National Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. assured.

While Acorda did not yet disclose the number of police personnel to be deployed as part of Sona security, he said it would just be enough to secure the annual event.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will enforce a gun ban and deploy over 20,000 police officers for the second State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. this July.

The officers — totaling 22,081 cops — will be posted in the vicinity of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, where the president will deliver his Sona, and 31 border control points within Metro Manila,  Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, NCRPO chief, said in a statement on Monday.
