Transport groups set strike on Sona day

05:12 AM July 13, 2023

Several transport groups are planning to stage a three-day transport strike to coincide with President Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (Sona).

Mar Valbuena, national president of the transport group Manibela, said they will hold their strike from July 24 to 26.

The strike was due to the government’s alleged preferential treatment in the awarding of routes to public utility vehicles.

The group claimed that corporations or local government units were getting the routes instead of transport cooperatives.

Around 200,000 of their members nationwide are set to join the strike, according to Valbuena.

He also lamented that their provisional authorities remain “stuck” with the regional offices of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board. —DEMPSEY REYES
