MANILA, Philippines — There will be no rail transportation starting Maundy Thursday (April 6) until Easter Sunday (April 9) after train commuter lines announced the suspension of operations to give way for maintenance activities.
It can be recalled that the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and Philippine National Railways (PNR) all suspended their operations on the same dates.

On March 13 in an advisory, The Light Rail Transit Authority announced that it would suspend LRT-2 operations from April 6 to 9 to conduct thorough maintenance activities on its trains, station facilities, and equipment to ensure the system’s reliability and safety.

Shortened operations for Holy Wednesday, April 5, was also announced, with the earliest trip scheduled at 5:00 a.m., and the last trip at 7:00 p.m.; during normal operating hours, the last trip of LRT-2 leaves Recto Station at 9:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) also announced the suspension of MRT-3 operations on the same dates to likewise give way to maintenance activities.

The Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) the following day, March 14, also announced the suspension of operations in LRT-1 for maintenance activities.

LRMC said that the maintenance activities during the Holy Week will allow the LRT-2 to better serve its passengers.
Lastly, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) on March 28 also announced its suspension of operations from April 6 to 9.

The PNR said it timed its maintenance activities on the said dates to ensure that it would not affect commuters.
All train operators then announced that normal train operations will resume on Monday, April 10.
Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturday (April 6 to 8) had all been declared non-working holidays by Malacañang on March 14.

This means the public is free to enjoy a long weekend starting April 6 stretching until April 10, which is also a non-working holiday in celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan or the Day of Valor.
