MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that it has already recorded 35,017 passengers in all sea ports nationwide on Holy Wednesday from 12 midnight to 6:00 a.m.

According to the PCG in a statement, 20,197 of the passengers were traveling outbound while 14,820 were inbound.

Meanwhile, the PCG said that it already placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on heightened alert to address the influx of port users during the Holy Week from April 2 to 10.

The PCG also said that it will extend its heightened alert until May 31 to monitor local tourists traveling by sea.

Holy Wednesday marks the fourth day of the Holy Week — an important religious event in the Philippines, particularly for Catholics, as it is the most sacred week in the liturgical year in Christianity.
