Jewelry shop owner gunned down in Cebu City
CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — A jewelry shop owner was gunned down by still unidentified men at the corner of Panganiban and Colon Streets in Barangay Pahina Central here at around 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30.
Joseph Canonigo, 58, and a resident of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, suffered gunshot wounds in his head and body.
Staff Sergeant Kitz Daryl Palaña, the investigator on the case of the Carbon Police Station, said Canonigo was driving his motorcycle when two men on board another motorcycle drove by the victim and shot him several times.
Canonigo died while the assailants fled.
According to Palaña, investigators have yet to identify the perpetrators as well as the motive behind the killing.
“The victim’s family does not know of any person who had a grudge against him,” the police officer said.
