Pasay shop owner slain

A furniture shop owner was shot dead in front of his store by a still unidentified gunman in Pasay City on Sunday night.

Police identified the victim as Michael Ian Versoza, 40, a resident of Pestañas Street.

Versoza was about to padlock the steel sliding door of his shop on Arnaiz Avenue when the lone assailant appeared and shot him on the right side of the face.

The gunman then fled on foot toward Taft Avenue.

The victim was declared dead at 10:32 p.m. while undergoing treatment at Pasay City General Hospital.

According to the victim’s shop helper, Jaylord Morfe, 21, he was closing the door of the store when Versoza told him to go.

Morfe was walking toward Roxas Boulevard to fetch his common-law wife when he heard the gunshot.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage in the area for possible identification of the suspect. —Erika Sauler and Erma Edera
