Two earthquakes hit Eastern Samar

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit Eastern Samar on Wednesday, followed by another earthquake of the same magnitude two hours later, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs detected the first quake at 2:16 a.m. and located its epicenter 12 kilometers kilometers southwest of Homonhon Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The first tectonic earthquake’s depth of focus was 13  kilometers.

State seismologists reported Intensity II in General MacArthur, Eastern Samar.

Phivolcs detected the second tectonic earthquake at 4:20 a.m., and located its epicenter nine kilometers east of Maslog, Eastern Samar.

The second earthquake has a depth focus of 16 kilometers.

Phivolcs reported Intensity III for Maslog and Arteche in Eastern Samar, and Intensity II for Oras, Eastern Samar.

No aftershocks and damage are expected for either earthquake, Phivolcs said.
