COVID-19 case fatality highest among elderly from June to Sept. — Octa

MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 case fatality rate is highest among senior citizens from June to September this year, independent analytics group Octa Research said Monday, citing data from the Department of Health (DOH).
Octa Research fellow Guido David defined case fatality rate as the “death rate among reported [COVID-19] cases.”
For the period covering June up to the third quarter, the fatality rate among the elderly is at 2.06 percent, the highest in all age groups.
This is a reversal of trend after the DOH said in May that recorded deaths in the country due to COVID-19 are declining.

The 18-to-49 age group, on the other hand, has the lowest case fatality rate at 0.14 percent during the same period.
Meanwhile, the following are the case fatality rates of all age groups as posted on David’s Twitter account:
0-4 years old – 0.15 percent
5-11 years old – 0.20 percent
12-17 years old – 0.22 percent
18-49 years old – 0.14 percent
50-59 years old – 0.69 percent
60 years old and above – 2.06 percent

Based on DOH’s latest figures, 62,549 individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in the Philippines.
Of the more than three million COVID-19 infections in the country, 26,401 are active cases.
