MANILA, Philippines — Recorded deaths in the country due to COVID-19 are declining, the Department of Health (DOH) stressed Monday.

In an interview on TeleRadyo’s On the Spot, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire was asked why there are still many COVID-19 deaths.

“Dito po sa mortality rate ng COVID, pababa na po nang pababa ang pagkakamatay dito sa ating bansa, in terms of COVID-19,” she answered.

Vergeire explained that some of the deaths being reported are still from months ago which were added to the current data.

“‘Pag nakita kasi natin ang ating death data, ito po ay pinaghalo-halo, nami-mix po ‘yun pong mga ibang buwan na pagkakamatay dito po sa current na nire-report natin because of the validation being done by the local governments po. Kaya po minsan ganu’n po ang ating nakikitang deaths du’n sa ating mga reports,” she pointed out.
