Robredo turns over Angat Buhay housing units in Albay
LIGAO CITY, Albay, Philippines — Former Vice President Leni Robredo led the turnover of housing units at Angat Buhay Village in Guinobatan town in Albay province on Sunday, Aug. 14.
The Angat Buhay houses in Barangay Mauraro were given to 100 beneficiaries, Guinobatan Vice Mayor Ann Ongjoco said.
Most of the recipients lost their houses due to lahar flow when Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni) struck Albay in November 2020.
Henedina Periña, 56, resident of Barangay San Francisco and one of the recipients, thanked Robredo for her generosity.
“Finally I have a new house to stay,” Periña said.
Susan Handusay, 45, also a beneficiary, said she was grateful to be one of lucky ones to own one of the housing units.
“My heart is full of joy. Thank you for the people who exerted effort in constructing the houses for us,” Handusay said.
Joy Rañola-Maravillas, chief of the Guinobatan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, assured all the beneficiaries that the area where the housing project stands is secure.
“Prior to the acquistion of the land area, there were several studies and assessment that have been done by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology and Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in order to assure the safety of the community,” Maravillas said.
She said the relocation is also safe from possible flash flood and landslide because of its elevation.
