P46.28-M worth of smuggled cigarettes seized in Subic port

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — A container of smuggled cigarettes worth P46.28 million was seized here, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Thursday, Aug. 11.

The shipment, which came from Singapore, was consigned to Proline Logistics Philippines Inc., which is not a registered company in this free port.

According to the BOC, the shipment was also not on its list of registered importers of cigarettes.

Maritess Martin, BOC district collector, issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of the National Tobacco Administration Memorandum Circular No. 03 and Republic Act No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization Tariff Act.
