PNP: Arrested election gun ban violators now at 893
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) had so far arrested 893 gun ban violators, after the arrest of 30 more individuals on Tuesday.
According to the PNP, this total included 861 civilian violators, 8 police officers, five military personnel, and 11 security.
A total of 695 firearms have so far been confiscated along with 4,493 ammunition, and 307 deadly weapons.
Metro Manila, meanwhile, leads with the highest number of incidents and violators recorded at 260 and 283, respectively. It is followed by Region 7, with 84 incidents and 116 violators.
The nationwide gun ban, imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the national and local elections, is set until June 8, 2022.
Violators of the gun ban may face jail time of one year up to six years, disqualification to hold public office, and deprivation of the right to vote. However, regular officers, members, and agents of several agencies are exempted from the gun ban.
